So like most people… this holiday season will be filled with office parties, holiday parties, cookie exchanges and so much more! Keeping up with your workouts and fitness goals can seem harder than climbing a mountain! When you have the option of a glass of champagne with friends or getting in your workout I can tell you which seems most appealing to me! ;) But there is a way!
This season is a very small part of the year that only comes around NOW and should be a time to have fun and enjoy friends and family! You shouldn’t feel guilty about indulging a bit! You work hard all year and this is a fun time so don’t miss out!
So in instead of giving up your holiday or how far you have come with your workouts. Schedule your workouts early in the day! Get them over with! Have your cake and eat it too! Ha your cake being your workout! ;)
If you get your workout done early in the day, you can enjoy the rest of the day knowing that it is done and “if you have that cookie” well…. Tis the season you did your workout already! There are few people that I know have the willpower to leave a party or gathering to go to the gym to avoid that situation all together!
Do you have to workout everyday to lose a little without eating anything fun? NO! But set a goal how many times you want to workout that week or plan the days you will take off. For me Christmas and New Year's days are DAYS OFF! NO GYM. I take them as free days that I won’t feel guilty about what I eat or the workout that I don’t do!
For my family, food is a big part of holidays and we eat things that we really don’t have the rest of the year... Instead of eating one of everything (which can lead to thousands of calories in a very short amount of time) pick your favorites! Think about the things that you really enjoy and eat those. Don’t stand by the food while you're talking to friends and family! Stand away! :) When you decide to eat, take a plate and fill it once! Snacking or picking is a sure way to overeat without even knowing it. If you stick to one plate you can see exactly how much you're consuming and it limits what you can fit so again pick your favorites!!
Choose wisely! Things like shrimp cocktail, chicken skewers or raw veggies are a great way to fill up and feel satisfied while getting some protein, nutrients and very few calories!
And as always drink lots and lots of water!!!!! It will help you fill up, keep you hydrated and keep you busy so you don’t feel like snacking!
It's all about planning and moderation! You don’t need to eat the entire cookie plate but one or two will not kill you! You don’t have to workout everyday but plan your days off so you don’t get too sidetracked!
The holiday season is a hard time to try to lose weight so just try to maintain. Try to keep with your program! Being able to do that during the busy season is an accomplishment in itself!
It’s one small time of the year, ENJOY IT!!!!!!! Then get right back at it after! ;)
