Do you go to the dentist and ask them to show you how to give yourself a root canal? Do you go to the doctor and ask them to tell you how to manipulate your prescriptions yourself? Or the mechanic to have them just show you a few machines to fix up your car?
Probably not! So why do the same with your health?
So as a health and fitness professional we are trained to talk with people and find out "why" they are looking to start a fitness plan, lose weight or change their habits. Many people when you initially ask them will say "I want to lose weight!". Well yes, losing weight is important and has positive health impacts but when it comes to sticking with a plan there is usually a more emotional reason or a reason that will have a greater impact on whether or not someone achieves the goals they set.
ave you ever really stuck to your New Year resolution? If you say no you are not alone! Why though? Why is January 1st so different than December 31st or December 1st?
New Year resolutions have become so popular if you don’t make one your probably one of the minorities! But if they only last for a month sometimes less why are they such a big deal? (We have all been to the gym in January…..UUUGGGGG.)
I get that it is a new year and a seemingly fresh start. A time to be out with the old in with the new. It’s the same idea as starting a new program or diet, who starts on Sunday! Ha! Nobody!
This is all great but why then if we put such importance on these resolutions they rarely last till December...or June...or February for that matter! Isn’t there a better way?!
I set some goals in early November that I wanted to be able to do a one handed push up (like a legit one handed push up with a smile on my face not veins popping outta my head kind of push up) and consecutive double under jumps........read on to see how I did!! :)
So like most people… this holiday season will be filled with office parties, holiday parties, cookie exchanges and so much more! Keeping up with your workouts and fitness goals can seem harder than climbing a mountain! When you have the option of a glass of champagne with friends or getting in your workout I can tell you which seems most appealing to me! ;) But there is a way!
This season is a very small part of the year that only comes around NOW and should be a time to have fun and enjoy friends and family! You shouldn’t feel guilty about indulging a bit! You work hard all year and this is a fun time so don’t miss out!
So in instead of giving up your holiday or how far you have come with your workouts. Schedule your workouts early in the day! Get them over with! Have your cake and eat it too! Ha your cake being your workout! ;)
So you realize that you're unmotivated. Your workouts have been pretty lackluster. Sometimes you get to the gym sometimes you don’t. You step on the scale and are shocked but still nothing. Motivation still isn’t there!
Now what? How do you change this? What do you do?
So lately with so much going on, being busy at work, answering emails, working on stuff and trying to spend time with family, friends and my husband I have found that my eating has gone all out of whack! Is it the time of year that things just start getting super busy. We no longer are wearing tanks and shorts everywhere but sweatshirts, long pants and a Gap vest….(that’s what my daily attire is at least) OR am I just losing my focus???
I have found that the last few days I haven’t been able to eat until almost 11am... sometimes even later and I am up at 5am! This is everything that I tell my clients NOT to do! I end up going straight from client to client because I don’t want anyone to sit and wait, therefore I end up not eating! My clients might get an extra 5 minutes of a workout but it is not good for me. I am not setting a good example when this happens!
